A Seasonal Guide to Radiant Skin!
The weather's warmer. The birds are chirping. The flowers are growing. May is finally here.
And with this comes many new changes in the weather and environment, which can all be harmful to you and your skin health.
But don't worry. We here at GG have you covered with all the guidance you need to make sure you're achieving your best skin health and making the most of the weather this season.
So let's dive into this seasonal blog, where we discuss how spring affects your skin, and how you can both look and feel your best for MAY and the REST OF THE SEASON!
SUN PROTECTION
One of the best things about spring is more sunshine. But there's a catch - more sunshine also means more problems for your skin and overall bodily health.
Higher temperatures and increased sunshine can cause breakouts and irritation far different from what you've experienced in winter, mostly due to increased exposure to the sun's dangerous UV rays. (1)
The sun also worsens any skin problems you already have, such as eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea, so it's best to limit your time outdoors or apply plenty of NATURAL SUNSCREEN when outside if you have a history of these conditions. (2)
FUN FACT: Sun rays inflict so much damage they can actually damage your DNA. Protect your skin today by applying sunscreen that's not just protective, but nourishing, much like the hydrating products in our SPF Sun Defense Package. (3)
The real danger of increased sun exposure in spring is that sun rays break down important skin fibers called elastin.
Damaged elastin leads to slower skin recovery, more bruises and wounds, and a greater opportunity for your skin to sag, stretch, and show the effects of aging. (4)
And one of the greatest dangers of increased sunshine in spring (and even summer) is skin cancer. Skin cancer can spread all over your body, and is currently the most common form of cancer in the country. (5)
BREAKOUTS
More sunshine in spring also means something else - acne. In fact, higher temperatures, more time outdoors, and increased sweating can lead to a dramatic increase in breakouts this season.
And this increase in acne isn't simply confined to your face. Many people experience back acne and acne all over their body as a result of increased sweating. (6)
The reason sweating causes breakouts is because our sweat mixes with the dirt and oil in our skin, which causes pimples and full-on acne flareups. (7)
FUN FACT: If your skin is feeling oilier than usual this spring, you must regulate your oil production. Balance your oil today with the Normalizing Face Oil in our Facial Care System! (8)
Increased sweating and oil production also increases the temptation to wash more aggressively with over-the-counter products that promise instant results.
DON'T!
The best way to fight acne flareups is by avoiding products containing harsh and drying ingredients. Instead, gently wash NATURALLY and protect your complexion today! (9)
Another way to prevent acne flareups this spring is by knowing if you have oily, dry, or combination skin, and being sure you don't cause inflammation while you wash. (10)
DEEPLY EXFOLIATE
Another essential part of your Spring-Care Skin Care Guide is exfoliation. Exfoliating is a great way to remove the pollutants and environmental debris lingering on your skin from winter.
With a deep exfoliator, your skin will also have more efficient cellular regeneration and, as a result, healthier and younger-looking skin. (11)
Exfoliating also removes dead skin cells, which is especially important in spring when dry and thirsty skin can lead to a damaging buildup on the surface of your skin. (12)
FUN FACT: Did you know pores are little holes in your skin that can lead to breakouts when clogged? Prevent breakouts by cleaning your pores with the exfoliating and nourishing products in our Facial Care System! (13)
Although it's a great idea to clean your face after sweating, it's also beneficial to exfoliate before heading out into the sun.
This is because sweat traps whatever dirt and debris are already on your skin inside your pores. Exfoliating draws out impurities, and gives your sweat nothing to trap! (14)
And since clean pores enable skin care products to seep into your skin more efficiently, exfoliating will also provide your skin a clean surface to absorb any other essential product you'll need this season to achieve younger-looking skin! (15)
HYDRATE YOUR SKIN
There are a lot of reasons to be excited about warmer weather. Dull, dry, and dehydrated skin is not one of them.
To help keep your skin moisturized this season, be sure that you're moisturizing with something that will both draw moisture to your skin AND keep you from drying out, while also not being too greasy. (16)
Moisturizing also works really well with your new SPRING-CARE exfoliating habits, as both will boost your skin with the moisture it needs, while helping you recover from the effects of winter dryness. (17)
FUN FACT: Going from winter to spring can shock your skin! Be sure to throw away all your products that are at least six months old and replace them with our Systems and Packages that can leave your skin clean and nourished all season long! (18)
A great way to be sure you're protecting your skin without over-drying is by picking ALL-NATURAL PRODUCTS with HYALURONIC ACID.
HYALURONIC ACID draws moisture to your skin and protects you with a layer of constant hydration that's perfect for spring, when the weather can change from day to day, or even hour to hour. (19)
Using products with HYALURONIC ACID leaves your skin better prepared to recover from whatever the volatile spring weather throws at it, while keeping your tissues hydrated and protected for an extended period of time. (20)
BOOST YOUR GLOW
VITAMIN C is known for its amazing ability to de-age your skin and leave you looking and feeling younger, and it's also a must-have as we enter the spring season.
This is because warmer weather also means more time outdoors and an increased exposure to free radicals, environmental toxins, and pollutants. (21)
With its rich blend of antioxidants, VITAMIN C is able to fight free radicals and lessen the dangerous effects of oxidative stress, keeping your skin looking and feeling younger. (22)
FUN FACT: More UV light also means more free radical damage. Enjoy the sunshine without the (oxidative) stress by applying the Vitamin C in our Facial Care System. (23)
VITAMIN C also boosts your production of collagen, which is a protein that you already have in your skin but lose as you age - one of the reasons your skin sags and wrinkles over time.
VITAMIN C not only increases the amount of this de-agifying protein, but also helps protect the collagen you already have, helping to iron out and reduce wrinkles in a matter of weeks. (24)
Aside from it being singularly beneficial for skin health, VITAMIN C also assists in the functioning of many other essential cellular processes that your body needs to maintain optimal health and radiant skin. (25)
