Cinnamon: 4 Incredible Benefits For Your Skin

Add Some Spice To Your Life!

Whether sprinkled on their favorite dessert, or as an ingredient in flavored bubblegum, cinnamon is a spice people enjoy every day.

But did you know that cinnamon is one of the most effective ingredients you can apply to your skin?

Well, new studies are revealing what scientists and dermatologists have long suspected: cinnamon is they key to great skin health.

In this blog we talk about what cinnamon is, and four benefits of this incredible natural ingredient for your skin.

WHAT IS CINNAMON?

Cinnamon is a spice that comes from a special kind of tree - the Cinnamomum tree

Surprisingly, this skin-saving spice comes in two different varieties - cassia cinnamon and Ceylon - and they both do wonders for your skin. (1)

This is because cinnamon is rich in plant compounds called polyphenols, which are also known to boost your mental and physical health. (2)

Chemical Structure of Polyphenol (28)

In addition to containing the incredible benefits of cinnamon, cinnamon contains other amazing natural minerals, like iron and magnesium. (3)

FUN FACT: Cinnamon can be enjoyed as a stick, or in powder or oil form. (3)

Cinnamon is more than a scent, but it really does smell good. This is because 1-4% of the spice is an essential oil that is known for its incredible aroma-therapeutic qualities. (4)

In recent years, cinnamon has been utilized in many skincare products, but this is nothing new. In fact, cinnamon has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. (5)

Now let's dive into the ways cinnamon helps your skin!

PREVENTS AGING

Cinnamon fights aging because of the vast amounts of antioxidants this tiny little spice packs.

In fact, a recent study proved that out of 26 tested spices, cinnamon contained MORE ANTIOXIDANTS than any of them. (7)

Why does this matter?

Well, antioxidants fight free radicals, which are those nasty, unstable molecules that can be found everywhere, from the air you breathe to the food you eat. (7) (8)

Free radicals are not just a minor cause of skin aging, either. This is because 60% of your body can technically aid in the aging of your skin.

Due to the fact that most of your body is water (filled with oxygen), your body is constantly vulnerable to the oxidation and aging that goes along with free radical damage. (9) (10)

FUN FACT: Cinnamon is such an amazing skin-booster that it was actually considered more valuable than gold until the 1800s! (11)

Think of cinnamon as a superhero. Its superpowers are these amazing procyanidins and catechins that many micronutrients share, such as superfood berries. (12)

What makes cinnamon so unique is that it actually helps your body stabilize free radicals and prevent the damage that your cells would otherwise incur. (13)

This means cinnamon negates the effects of aging, ironing out wrinkles, evening out your complexion, and preventing fine lines as a result of oxidative stress! (14)

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY

In addition to containing free-radical fighting components like procyanidins and catechins, cinnamon also contains compounds that fight inflammation.

Inside even trace amounts of cinnamon are loads of plant compounds, such as cinnamic acid, flavenoids, and cinnamaldehyde. (1)

These plant compounds actually inhibit the activation of chemical processes that lead to aging and skin inflammation. (15)

FUN FACT: Cinnamon helps revitalize dull and uneven skin, improves elasticity, and will make you look younger! (14)

The compounds in cinnamon have also been proven to increase the effectiveness and speed at which our skin heals. (17) (18)

Formula of Cinnamaldehyde

This extends to acne, which is one of the most effective uses of the spice in skincare.

Using cinnamon unclogs your pores, restores oxygen to your skin, and remedies pimples and outbreaks. (19)

And if you don't have an outbreak, that's fine too. Cinnamon helps to control your oil production, which saves you from developing acne later.

SUPPORTS BLOOD FLOW

One of the secrets to healthier, younger-looking skin is smooth and consistent blood flow. And one of the best ingredients to help you achieve this is cinnamon. (20)

Cinnamon relaxes your blood vessels, which leads to better circulation and greater blood flow (and also better blood pressure). (21)

For your skin, this is massive. This is because your blood flow is directly related to the youthful appearance of your skin.

FUN FACT: Cinnamon is so great at controlling your blood that it's recommended for people with prediabetes! (22)

Better blood flow equals better skin because of the easier time your body has to deliver necessary nutrients to your skin cells, which in turn repairs them more efficiently.

Cinnamon also quickens the rate at which your body defends itself, which is especially important for your skin, your body's first line of defense. (23)

Cinnamon finishes off your skin detox by keeping your skin plump and elastic and evening out your texture. (24)

RELIEVES DRY SKIN

With fall here, and cooler temperatures just around the corner, many of you will soon see those nasty symptoms of dry skin return. But before you crack and bleed, just reach for the cinnamon.

Cinnamon softens dry and flaky skin, and draws out the dead skin cells from your epidermis. (19)

Cinnamon acts as an exfoliator, and its grainy texture helps to clean out your pores and prevent bacterial and fungal infections. (25)

FUN FACT: Cinnamon also works great with other oils and ALL-NATURAL ingredients like oatmeal in Garner's Garden 100% All-Natural Cinnamon and Oatmeal Soap!

Cinnamon is incredibly effective at removing dead and dying skin cells from your scalp. (19)

The hair follicles on your head will also reap the rewards of cinnamon by way of healthy, nourished skin cells that grow easier and faster. (26)

With cinnamon and increased blood flow, your hair follicles receive more nutrients and oxygen, which directly translates to hair growth. (27)

But unfortunately, many over-the-counter products boasting the effects of cinnamon contain artificial ingredients and chemicals that take away the benefits of the all-natural spice.

Cinnamon works best in ALL-NATURAL skincare products, and GARNER'S GARDEN has everything you want to get the most out of your cinnamon-based skincare regimen, such as:
